I have internet explorer and currently having many problems; slowness, error msgs. Does it have to be uninstalled to put in Firefox and how do you do this?

First, after reading much info regarding my Windows 7 OS it was advised that I probably needed a new computer. I researched and found that all I need probably is to update my browser. I work for a company that recommends Chrome first and Firefox 2nd. Chrome does not work for me, had to uninstall it. In order to make Firefox work as it should, do I need to uninstall Explorer? If so, how do I access it and how do I uninstall it? Also I have Norton antivirus that I paid almost $100.00 for. Do I need Norton if Firefox has antivirus protection.? And last, what is Java, do I need it? Thank you, potential customer

Firefox works fine with other web browsers installed; and even if you would use them at the same time.

Yes, you need some type of anti-virus application, Firefox doesn't contain an AV program - that's not not something that any browser actually comes with.

Norton works fine with Firefox, although there may be some extra steps involved with Norton add-ons for Firefox after a Firefox update.

You don't "need" Java, but some stuff needs Java to work. Many users don't miss having Java installed after they get rid of it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_programming_language

Thank you Edmeister. You have answered every question. Actually I took a chance and downloaded and installed Firefox before getting an answer. Glad I did!! it was easy and I already feel a level of confidence. Thank you thank you! Also I have had previous experience with Firefox when I worked with another company about 4 years ago and it was terrific then; I never had a problem with it.
