I have been using TB for a few months now on Win7. I now need to copy my mail folder to WinXP on my laptop for a road trip.

On my desktop I have TB configured to use a profile on a data partition and it works just fine.

I installed TB on my laptop and made it a mirror image of the desktop version. TB installed in the boot partition with the profile in the data partition.
I changed the profile.ini in the documents and settings folder to point to the the new data partition profile but every time I start TB it wants me to setup my accounts. It doesn't seem to get what in needs from the new profile. I tried several times and have read the info on moving the profile location but still does cannot make it work.

Am I missing something? I haven't tried manually adding each account back in but will if I can't get the copied profile to work. I made it work on Win7, why can't I get it to work on WinXP?

What am I missing?

Chosen solution

  1. Copy the Name of your New Profile and Delete that Profile.
  2. Change the Old Profile Name with New Profile Name (Copied one)
  3. Copy that profile into thunderbird.

Still getting error, create a new profile and try this

Thanks for the link. I had tried setting the profile to point to the new profile several times and couldn't get it to work. I finally did get it to work so all is well now. Thanks.
