Upon restart following download/install of Mavericks 10.09.4, Firefox reopened but with about 50-75% of bookmarks gone. Files still there, but now empty.

Running Firefox 30.0. All OK. It shutdown when Mac restarted to install Mavericks 10.9.4. When it reopened most of my bookmarks had disappeared from their folders. Also, many folders are now designated, "Unsorted Bookmarks." They too are empty. Have tried restoring bookmarks from yesterday's backup (.json file in profile) but while I get somewhat different array of folders, most remain empty. Any other means to retrieve bookmarks as they existed previously?

Got most of them back by restoring from 4 days prior. Don't know why yesterday's back up (when all was running fine) and the day before didn't work. Still have a few empty folders (most marked Unsorted) which I'll just delete.

Thanks for prompt reply.

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backup of files that you choose.
