Edit the Subject or any part of the message with one of these add-ons:

You can 'star' messages, this is kind of like a bookmark. Right - click a message - Mark - Add Star You can then filter for 'stared' messages.

You can add tags to messages. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Tags
