I have a new system from HP. I installed firefox two days ago. It works for a while and then keeps crashing in Win 8.1. This usually happens together with a pop up saying something like a script is running, do I want to stop it or continue

Can someone help? What should I do?

I'd add that after Firefox crashes. It's impossible to shut it down. I used to use Vista and the way I did it was to start Task Manager and force shut down Firefox. But now under WIn8.1, when Firefox crashes, I go to Crtl+Alt+Del. and can't start Task Manager anymore. It seems as though when FF crashes it brings down Task Manager along with it. It cannot be started, and hence I cannot force shut down FF.

That looks like hangs in the Shockwave Flash plugin.

You can check for problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions and try this:

I am already using the latest Nvidia update drivers. I will try to disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin and see how it goes before trying the second suggestion of disabling protected mode.

By the way, I have read about Shumway as a possible replacement for Abode Flash. Is it recommended to use that for Firefox?

Shumway is still being developed and hasn't been finished yet. It will only work with some basic Flash object and probably not with media players.

Thanks for the help cor-el, much appreciated!
