The name for my email in thunderbird now has a Paddle Lock showing on it. What does this mean? Can I get it off?

When I open thunderbird and get logged in my Email address name at the top of my thunderbird email has a Paddle Lock on it. What does that mean? Can I get it off? I am using a VERIZON email address. Over the last 2 days I have not been able to down load any of my incoming email messages. It keeps asking me for my Password which I type in and then it says its incorrect. After resubmitting my password I get a Error message says #0012 password incorrect. Is this something thunderbird did or happened from the new update for Ver. 31.1.2? I need help.

The padlock indicates a secure connection to the server. You don't want to get rid of that. Please check with Verizon whether something has changed on their end. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/problems-sending-and-receiving-messages
