Is there a way to set page breaks before printing?

Many times, it will need just two pages, and it would be better if part of the content from page 1 were on page 2, with the rest of its related content.

Yes, you can specify where page breaks go using Print Edit.

The steps are:

1. Select the element or elements where you want to add (or disallow) page breaks.

2. Click the ‘Format’ button to open the ‘Format’ panel.

3. Click on the down-pointing chevron button, so that you can see the ‘Properties’ section of the panel.

4. The very last property is the ‘Page Break’ property, which can have one of three values (‘before’, ‘after’ or ‘not inside’).

5. Set the required value and enable the ‘Page Break’ checkbox.

6. For the simple case, disable all of the ‘Controls’ checkboxes.

7. Click the ‘OK’ button.

If you want to add page breaks to all elements of a particular type in a section of the page or throughout the page:

1. Select the section of the page or the entire page.

2. Enable the ‘Apply to sub-elements’ checkbox.

3. Enable the ‘Restrict to:’ checkbox and select the element type from the dropdown menu.

4. Click the ‘OK’ button.

Summary of what I will do:

To get the content to span the page of Letter or Tabloid, Landscape: Edit Select / Select All Format / Fit to Content ... Controls / [check] Apply to sub-elements ... Ok

To insert Page Breaks: Select the element or elements where you want to add, or remove, page breaks Format button - Properties [check] Page Break - before [un-check] all of the ‘Controls’ checkboxes. Click the ‘OK’ button

Are you printing from Firefox?

How to do this depends on the type of file (plain text or word type).

Is it you only have two pages, or you only want two pages of the file?

Can you give an example of what you want to do?

. . . Are you printing from Firefox?

Yes

. . . Is it you only have two pages, or you only want two pages of the file?

I should simplify . . . just asking about - is there a way to specify page breaks

. . . Can you give an example of what you want to do?

Yes . . . I try to go paperless as much as possible. I'm printing to pdf, using Foxit Phantom Business. I was using PDF Re-Direct before.

Examples: If I get a receipt from amazon, info for an item might start at the bottom of a page, and be continued on the next page. I would like to get info for the item at the bottom to just start on the next page, having specified the page break. I would then do this with everything else, through to the end of the document. I printout news articles to pdf also, and it would be useful there too.

Ahh, you want to select what is printed. Open the file. Use the mouse to mark what you want to print. Use Print Preview to see what you have.

Fred . . . "Use the mouse to mark what you want to print" . . . can you be more specific on this?

Ed . . . Print Edit 12.10 . . . Thanks! This looks like it might work . . . I don't think I can specify where the actual line breaks go, though, I have to let it do it. For example, this seems to be the standard that I would do:

Edit Select / Select All Format / Fit to Content, Apply to sub-elements / Ok Tools / Fix Page Breaks . . . can I specify after this somehow? Preview

Use the mouse to mark what you want to print

Open the document. Find where you want to start the print-out. Place the mouse at that point and left click once.

  • 1 Holding down the left mouse button, scroll to the end of what you want. Then let go.
  • 2 hold down the <Shift> key. Now press these keys until you get to the end. <Page-Up/Down><Arrow keys>

Once the area has been marked, right click in the area and select Print.

I don't think I can specify where the actual line breaks go As I said before, it depends on the type of document.

Thanks Fred. I'll see if I can find out from the author, DW-dev.

One last thing to think about. Open the document. Mark what you want using the instructions above. Right click and select Copy.

Open a new blank document. For most word / text edit programs; Under Files select Open New or something like that.

In the new window, right click and select Paste. All done. Once you are done, close that window. If you are asked if you want to save it, that is up to you.
