Hello,

I need to set my mail.com account but Thunderbird sets email.com because my email is name@email.com but the server is imap.mail.com and I can NOT set it without Thunderbird blocking me with it´s retarded autoconfig which appearently DOES NOT WORK.

It should be possible to disable a malfunctioning autoconfig and let the user decide to put in settings if it fails to connect instead of blaming a wrong password because it sets the wrong server setting automatically!

How do I disable this forceful autoconfig?

Please fix this or tell me a workaround for that bug, thx, fred

I just figured it out.

In the config it said [imap] (like a button) .email.com. Same with smtp. I thought that I dont have to write imap before that .email.com because it was written left of it (had that in some other configs like that already who worked like that) and just tried to change the .email.com into .mail.com and that caused the error message.

So basicly I just had to fill in imap and smtp infront and then it worked.

Kinda weird... 99 % of those servers start with imap so why does Thunderbird just put .emailserver.com instead of imap.emailserver.com... Well anyways thats what mislead me.

Now it says email.com doesnt accept encrypted passwords even though it works on phone and tab with encrypted passwords... well thats not a mozilla thing, I guess.

thx anyways

This seems to indicate that mail.com addresses are username@mail.com.

Maybe you need to confirm your address with your provider.

Nope, I have this email for over 10 years now. It used to be email.com, they changed the server to mail.com (I guess when google bought it) but the emails didnt change thus I NEED to set imap.mail.com even though my email is @email.com.

I could do it in the past in Thunderbird without that autoconfiguration without hassle!!! I can set it on android phones and iphones that way so Thunderbird needs to let me set what I need to set rather than force me to something that does not work!

I tried to change it in about:config but it has no effect!

So what is keeping you from changing it. There are two different screens in the Account Settings window. One for account settings where you enter your email address and name and another page for server settings where the IMAP server and ports are located.

Thunderbird keeps me from setting it. It says its wrong, and when you klick ok its back to the old wrong setting.... Do you have any knowledge of that program?

ah woops, the message is not in your language, but you can trust me with the translation. ;)

Did you open the link I provided? It tells you how to get out of the auto config and set it up manually.

What has happened with Thunderbird? Why should it be so complicated to us average users who are not very tech savvy to just fix a password issue. I am about to leave Thunderbird.
