I am going to do it right now. Since the problem appears randomly at any time so I will check it for at least next 24 hours and update you after that.

There is no help even after disabling mcafee site advisor extension. It comes anytime without any specific event.

From last 3-4 days I am getting strange Chinese characters on the top of Title Bar or open tabs. They cannot be selected by mouse and sometime arrow mark (like on enter key) is shown on each tab. I have a similar problem. Characters look like "web dings", not necessarily Chinese. They block the tabs so it is difficult to see what is open and even more difficult to find the "x" to close them.

Reading the numerous contributions it looks like the Chinese Characters are not caused by McAfee. Seems to be a friendly malware acting by random. Characters are placed between command bar and tab title bar, which is not a space or line normaly adressed by thunderbird. Attached an example, hopefully somebody could read&translate the characters which would perhaps trace the originator.

@manfred, this is clearly traced back to mcafee siteadvisor and not related to malware!

philipp thanks, if so what does siteadvisor trigger to write chinese characters (and only these ) through the surface of firefox ? Did somebody of the experts contact McAfee and ask about that ?
