firefox will not respond after changing history settings

more options

Reviving a closed thread... I make some changes with cookies and cleared my history for today... and then restarted my computer... now firefox will will not respond... I am given an option to Reset Firefox or to Start in Safe Mode. Both selections end in the same result... the color wheel of death. I installed a Firefox update, but that did not help either. Should I uninstall firefox and then reinstall it from scratch?

If I uninstall firefox will the changes I made with the cookies and my history be reversed?

If I were to uninstall and then reinstall firefox will I loose my bookmarks if I do this? or does firefox remember them...so when I reinstall the previous bookmarks are reinstalled too?

The previous answer said is was a bug in Firefox 29 and that one had to force quit Firefox and reset the settings in Firefox, but I cannot access anything within Firefox to change the setting in question due to the issues stated above. Is there any workaround so that I don't lose all of my bookmarks, passwords, etc.?

1.Download and install mozbackup

2.Select your Firefox and back up all settings include bookmarks, passwords &...

3.Uninstall Firefox completely and install a fresh ver. Then restore your desired settings with mozbackup.

jvdabz - Thanks for the reply. Sounds like this would be perfect, but is it for Windows only? I was not able to run it on my Mac. Any other suggestions?

You can check if you can start Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift/Options key.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I am unable to do anything in safe mode, either... After 2 seconds it freezes up.
