This problem been reported for a long time, and the latest Firefox update didn't cure it. As mentioned in many reports, other browsers do not have this problem.

There is no need to consider the details of my browsers and operating systems.

This occurs for privacy and security reasons. You may also receive the error if a website has strictly limited to how it should be used. You can try to refrain from using the back and forward buttons of the browser but use the navigation inside the website.

Thanks for trying to help.

I don't believe that privacy and security are valid concerns. If so, Firefox would display "Document expired" when using a PC. It does not.

Perhaps I should have mentioned that we mainly search the web with our macs. Frequent returns to the search results are now painful. We are mostly using mac OS Lion though Yosemite.

If privacy and security were valid issues, Chrome and Safari would behave as the newer Firefox does. I just checked again and "Document expired" does not appear using a PC.

If there are some insidious security or privacy issues Firefox should explain, but still provide a means to "opt out" of the "Document expired" feature in the preferences, or, finally get rid of the problem entirely for mac versions.

We are still using an old version of Firefox on an non-intel imac, 3.6.28. No "Document expired" comments back then.

I am trying to determine when Firefox created this problem.

There are many complaints -- these should not be merely brushed off.

Sincerely,

Rich

Rich,

I understand your frustration. Unfortunately, due to the lack of description in your initial posting, I could not understand that there was NO "document expired message displayed". At this point, I need you to elaborate on your question so I can figure this out. I'm not aware of any issues with the document expired message. Once you elaborate on your issue, I can investigate and forward this to our Helpdesk team who can look into this.
