Do search folders automatically include new system archive folders

more options

Do search folders automatically include new system archive folders as they are created each year.

I decided to create filters and use these to keep track of various types of email, eg wife, mistress1, Mistress2 etc, friends, stamp collecting society, train spotting, bank etc I can then just archive them all and see them in search folders.

Looks like I will have to go through each property to choose folders each year.

I need to know is this the case before I create 50 odd search folders for mistresses plus the others?  :)

Having to think about it has probably resulted in me getting a better solution to managing the emails anyway. Cheers Andrew

First go to the archive options for the account.

Right click an account in the folder view and select settings. Select copies and folders Select the Archive options button. Select the Keep existing folder structure of archived messages.

Note this is per account. So repeat as necessary

Now when you archive the folders will be created to match those they are leaving. better than making 50 or so folders manually I think.

With regard to search, if you can see a folder in Thunderbird, search is supposed to index it's contents.

Hi Matt Thanks for the reply but I'm not sure it answers the point I wanted to clarify I can see your option creates a substructure in line with the original source email but does it also update a "saved search" folder criteria that this folder should be searched.

I am just working from my inbox and previously I would move emails to subfolders (basic filing) but this is a bit tedious dragging or selecting to the right destination. I just want to hit delete or archive then allow the "saved search" folder to work its magic with a filter.

Including a folder does not automatically cause sub folders to be searched so it seemed unlikely that come next year when a 2016 folder is created that the "saved search" folder will see the new folder.

My option still seems best for what I want even if I have to update 20 or so searches each January.

If any developers are watching the option to "include subfolders" in the criteria would get round the problem.

Just worked a further enhancement.

Using tags in the filter and found tags can be applied just by pressing their associated number. So all business purchases and all private purchases etc can be tagged separately and the tag included in their filters

Tag > Archive - done, so cool and easy.

Presumably only tags 1 thro 9 can be activated that way but that should be more than enough.

Looks like you have answered it yourself... but no saved searches are not automatically updated.
