Chosen solution

The Ghostery extension has been reported to cause this issue.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Thanks everyone.

I did a complete reset. I exported my bookmarks to a file then deleted FF & the folder in the roaming file.

I now have a clean install to work with & won't be loading Ghostery back on board.

Now my next step is to figure out why videos on weather channel & wild earth.tv won't play even with a clean install.

Do you have the Shockwave Flash plugin installed and enabled if you check that in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins"?

You can find the latest Flash player versions for Firefox on this page:
