I am going to do a recovery on my wife s pc. Everything will be wiped. I want to save her bookmarks to a flash drive or disc, so I can reload into firefox after its reinstalled.

Hi captinchaos, I know how useful resetting a pc can be. I also understand how important it is to get your bookmarks saved. I would be happy to help you get your bookmarks saved.

The easiest way to get your bookmarks saved as well as your browsing history is to use the free Firefox sync. This has been built in for several versions now. If you want to view the article on how to set it up click here. To set it up click on the three lines in the top right. Then near the bottom of the drop down menu click on sing into sync. Then it will have you set up an account and select what you want it to save. After that you are free to reset your wife's computer. Next you will need to pull everything from sync. Basically you just log into the account once you have Firefox on the computer again. The article has more information if needed.

Hope this helps. If you need any more help or information let me know.

captinchaos,

Since you only want to save your bookmarks, I think this is the best solution. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/export-firefox-bookmarks-to-backup-or-transfer

Sync wasn't made for use as a "backup medium". It may work properly, but I have seen too many threads here over the years with unhappy users who lost their personal data accidentally by misusing Sync as their only backup.

I have used sync this way myself before. I thought this would be the best way seeing as you don't need a usb or anything. But I can see why you might use the export method.
