Is there a way to un-star multiple messages instead of just one at a time?

For some unknown reason, almost all the messages in my inbox have been "starred". I want to remove the stars before archiving. Does anyone know why this might have happened, and is there a way to "unstar" multiple messages, instead of just one at a time?

Chosen solution

First you need to select all the involved messages. Click on the Star in that column's header to sort on that column. This will place all the starred messages together. Click the star a 2nd time to reverse the sort if that helps. Click on the first starred message. Now move to the last message with the star and hold the shift key while clicking that. This will select all the messages in that block. Right click one of the messages and select Mark- Add Star
