I've been having this problem for the longest! Weeks! I can't run Youtube, until waiting ten, twenty minutes of sitting there, stopping each script that pops up in the "unresponsive script error" msg. I also can't process flash, without the computer running a hundred flash.exe, which crashes the browser.

I'm not having this issue with Chrome, Opera, or heaven forbid I mention IE, but EVEN IE is running better than Firefox. I have so many things saved in my Firefox, I can't easily switch to another browser. Someone please help me. Below are some of the numerous scripts I can't run:

Chosen solution

Sorry to hear about that. Both symptoms are most likely related to the protected mode feature of the Flash player plugin. It has security benefits, but seems to have compatibility issues on some systems.

You can disable that feature using a new hidden setting:

(A) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(B) In the search box above the list, type or paste flash and pause while the list is filtered

(C) Double-click the dom.ipc.plugins.flash.disable-protected-mode preference to switch its value from false to true.

This might not take effect until all Flash has been unloaded for a few minutes, or you close Firefox.

Before that preference was added, the way to disable protected mode was by creating or editing a settings file. The following pages/posts provide different approaches for that if it turns out to be necessary (if Flash EXE processes continue to show up in the Windows Task Manager, Processes tab, even after changing the Firefox preference):

Flash needs to completely unload from memory (exiting and starting Firefox up again might help) before this takes effect.

Any improvement?

Hi there, So far, it seems like your suggestion is working. Websites using flash and javascript still have an issue loading, but its only 30secs, instead of 30min of stopping scripts.

I can't say that the problem is fully resolved, it will take some time of constant usage before I can tell if this resolved the issue, or acts as a quick fix.

Thanks a lot though! :D

Wow batupermata, I'm glad I'm not the only one. Heh, not saying I'm glad you're suffering with Firefox, but I honestly was thinking that there might have been a virus or some sort of worm on my computer, causing the issue.

I will say, it doesn't solve the errors running javascripts on Youtube and other websites. However, this solution has proven to help more than any I've tried, so far.

Hi TajiyaO, are you getting different errors now than you did before, or just less frequent?
