This problem started this morning. Only my verizon email accounts are not working. Other email accounts on thunderbird are working as usual. Thunderbird never asks for my password and therefore never connects with the verizon server. What could have happened to alter something and what might have been altered? I have verified the incoming and outgoing settings, security type , ports, username. I don't know where else to look for the answer to this problem. The verizon server is working as I can access it through other means, i.e. webmail or cell phone.

click the arrow beside the get mail on the toolbar and select your verizon account specifically. What happens then?

Yesterday there was still no response when I clicked the arrow and selected the verizon email, basically nothing happened. However, today after taking no action at all the verizon email is miraculously now working as before. Would sure like to know what caused the problem? But once it is gone I suppose it is almost impossible to discover what was going on. Thanks for the effort to assist me much appreciated.

Googling the date and "Verizon outage", the first two responses I got were,

This which takes you to a graph that shows "Verizon Communications problems last 24 hours", and

This that includes a "May 13, 2015 Verizon Communications outage map", which includes a map showing Verizon outages - and you can zoom into your area.
