This morning I was watching "Rachel Maddow" on MSNBC's website and the video froze (a common problem with MSNBC). I closed that tab and tried doing something else (I think accessing a site from my "Favorites" toolbar). That didn't work either, so I closed my browser. When I reopened Firefox, I tried doing a search using Google. When I typed an "F", the "File" tab dialog box opened; when I typed "E", "Edit" opened (B= Bookmarks, H = History, etc.). This happens whether I try typing in the search box on the Google page or the search box on my toolbar. Any key not associated with a toolbar tab does nothing. I can access websites from favorites, but otherwise the browser is useless. I can't include s screenshot because clicking on my "Screen Grab" button closes the dialog box. This all seems very strange to me - do you folks have any clues? Any help you can offer is MOST appreciated-Thanks! Mark (trymarx)

Chosen solution

If Firefox cannot properly read the state of the Alt key and thinks it is stuck down, this sometimes requires restarting Windows.

That sounds like one of your keyboard control keys is stuck. Or the computer thinks it is. Press all the control keys repeatedly to see if it clears up. Also try rebooting.
