Is there a way to tell Firefox (on Win 7 in my case) not to play audio automatically? Some sites like <http://www.gouldings.com/> start playing music as soon as they display. I'd like that to be an opt-in rather than an opt-out feature.

There are add ons that do this that you can find in addons.mozilla.org. In the past there are Muter, Flashmute etc. Check out one that works for you.
