Why does firefox overprint text with 'shadow text' on PDF files ie where ddmmyyyy is used as a guide?

I completed some online PDF forms that had 'shadow type' entries to demonstrate how the date should be entered ie DDMMYYYY. I assume this is for when the forms are printed and completed. However, when I print the forms the 'shadow type' print prints as bold and overwrites the text I have input.; wrecking the forms. These forms are government forms (relating to Power of Attorney) that will be heavily used in future so I rang the department responsible. They advised that this is a known problem with Mozilla and PDF's and that I should use Google, Chrome or Internet Explorer or print the forms and change everything by hand. On reflection I have experienced this problem with other similar forms using Mozilla and PDFs. Is there a fix or a bypass?
