A pop-up window asked if FF could make changes to the computer, and when I indicated "yes", it APPARENTLY downloaded and installed version 39.0 (very quickly). However when i attempted to locate information about version 39.0, the information located stated that there had a been a problem with MALWARE downloading with the update..

My question - - - - HOW AM I TO KNOW THAT THE VERSION 39.0 JUST INSTALLED TONIGHT , July 7, 2015, is a SAFE VERSION??

PLEASE ADVISE ASAP. Thank you.

A possible cause of this message is that Firefox is set to run as Administrator.

Check that Firefox isn't set to run as Administrator. Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties". Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

  • Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
  • "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected

Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program folder.

  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
