I want to remove a old account from Thunderbird that is unused. When I go to account setting, the "remove account" option is greyed out.

Is there another way to manually remove a mail account?

I attach an image for reference.

Chosen solution

I found a simple solution:

To hide your "local folder" in your folder tree load this add-on:

"Hide Local Folders"

You can find it here:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/hide-local-folders/?src=cb-dl-mostpopular

Does the job perfectly!

Cheers

Are you trying to remove Local Folders? That is a default Thunderbird account and cannot be removed.

I had some old e-mail in this folder of the person that had my position at work before me. However these old e-mails has since not been used and I don't have the files on my hard drive any more.

But the "Local folders" account still shows in the bar on the left of the screen. How do I get it to not show anymore. See image.

It's just unnecessary clutter that takes up screen space. But if it cannot be deleted, I will live with it.

Thanx.

It serves a purpose and cannot be removed. You can delete unneeded folders under Local Folders if you want but not the account.

It serves a purpose and cannot be removed.

e.g.

  • Outbox for unsent mail;
  • RSS feeds;
  • Newsgroups;
  • Account-agnostic storage; lets you file by context rather than by which account it came in through;
  • Offline storage for material otherwise held on IMAP servers.

Please make a note that you have removed this valuable feature and remember to state this if you come back for help. We have a perpetual problem helping users who have done something to their Local Folders, thinking it's "just another account" and find it doesn't behave like the others. Often they have somehow renamed it and have lost sight of its special function.

If you ever import material, or use Saved Searches, you'll need Local Folders.
