reading new messages actually opens the message in edit mode or in new message mode
windows 8.1 and thunderbird 38.1.
booted up this morning and checked email. Tried to open a new message I received and the from address is set as me, the to address is set as me and i'm not in the usual read message view - i can start typing and edit the message. I open and create messages in new windows versus tabs.
I've restarted TB many times. I updated windows updated (had not updated in 30 days). restarted. still have the problem.
Upon further investigation, I can move a new message from the inbox to, for example, junk mail folder, and the message opens normally. I can open messages already read normally. It's only unread new mail. If I move an unread new message and open in another folder then move back, it works fine.
errors in the TB error console: Timestamp: 7/27/2015 12:17:57 PM Error: path is null Source File: resource://gre/modules/osfile/ospath_win.jsm Line: 220
There were other errors in there before but not appearing each time.
There are also loads of css warnings and messages about chrome for some reason.
I don't know if any of these messages were appearing before today, as i've never had a problem with TB before.

Correction. I can move a new message to another folder and open normally but when i move it back to the inbox, it does not open normally. I have the same problem.
Uninstalled Thunderbird. Went with something else.
