Hello I hava a MacBook Pro OS x 10 6 8, and I suppose my operating system is still the one I had when I bought the computer. I use gmail. My spellcheck does not work in Firefox . Hope you can help me solve this problem. Thanks!

Hi Elin,

Firstly, can you check the popup menu when you right-click in a text box? You should have these 2 lines

  • Check Spelling (if it is activated, there is a tick in a blue square on the left)
  • Languages (if you move your mouse on it, you get the list on installed languages and the function Add Dictionaries)

Does this only happen with Gmail or also in a text area on forums like this forum?


Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
