Firefox won't run. How do I fix it?

Running Vista. All of a sudden and repeatedly I get a dialog box that says "Firefox has stopped working" A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Internet explorer works fine. Firefox is my browser of choice. I uninstalled and re-installed using IE but to no avail. The problem persists. No idea about what to do to correct this problem. If you have any advice about how to proceed it would be much appreciated. I am not afraid of the registry. I tread lightly but have no problem making changes there.

Please and Thank you: Gary Lutz

Strange. Did you tried to launch firefox (from search bar) with "firefox -p" ? This open a profile manager in which you can create a new blank Firefox profile to see if the problem is addons/plugin related. You could try to install firefox in a new path too, maybe is folder permission problem (strange, but not impossible) What version of Firefox do you have? Which addons/plugins?

Just tried the "firefox -p" but had the same immediate result of that dialog box I described.

Just downloaded and installed the latest version but can't tell you which addons/plugins I have because it won't run. The ones I did install came off of the firefox website, that much I do know.

Sorry but thanks anyway

Oh yeah. doubt it has anything to do with folder permission. I have administrator login. I'm the only login.

Tried to re-install firefox to a different directory but it doesn't give you that option. Deleted the directories for Mozilla and tried again but no luck. There is something else interfereing with firefox that won't let it run. Need to think outside the box.

Says something about version 2.0 and that crash reports are no longer being accepted for this version. I deleted the directory and the latest version of firefox created this directory and this file. Go figure.
