When Thunderbird suddenly started uploading emails from my Cox account after 2 years of not doing so I saw over 1000 emails come in - new unread. It is true I had not been able to keep up with my emails on line with Cox although I had read some and had moved 20 or so from last weekend to sub accounts on cox which I do not believe have been affected. While I was trying to begin the process of sorting and categorizing these 1000 emails suddenly all of my new emails disappered except for those 4 or 5 which I had just read on thunderbird. they are all gone from cox. They are not in the trash. They are not in my recycle bin. They are just gone and I am not happy about it at all.

Right click the account in to folder pane, select settings and turn on the option in server setting to leave messages on the server.

I am sorry this is very unclear as to how to answer so I answered in your box instead -- That setting you suggest was already marked and Thunderbird went ahead and deleted everything from the server anyway - very upset but I guess I am going to treat it like a major crash and go on instead of spending any more hours of my one day off a week trying to retrieve all those lost email - or any more money for that matter. I am pretty disgusted with Thunderbird at this point -- thank you for trying to help
