Firefox defaults to wrong spellchecker language
I have read many forum threads on this topic but none of them has solved my problem. The Firefox spellchecker underlines almost every word I type - I have worked out that its spellchecker language is set to French. So in options, I deleted all dictionaries apart from English. The problem persisted. I think the problem might be that I was living in France when I originally installed Firefox - even though I chose the English version and my computer is English. I am back in the UK now. I have downloaded the English UK version and installed it as an update. That didn't work. I also completely uninstalled the application (I thought), restarted the computer, and reinstalled the English version - but when I opened it, all my bookmarks etc were exactly as before and the problem persists. Could anyone offer a solution? I really need the spellcheck function and I really don't want to go back to Chrome... I am using Firefox 41.0 on a Windows 7 laptop. Thanks in advance.

Hello again. My problem is fixed! I found I could right-click on the gmail email window and select the language in there - it was set to French rather than English. So now it all seems to be working fine. Thanks very much for your help.

There is an about:config entry that selects the default spellchecker. It should be the first one that appears in spellchecker.dictionary
Hi there. Sorry for my slow response. I've checked in about:config and spellchecker.dictionary is set to en-GB. But it's still underlining all the English words in red when I type. Actually - I've just noticed it's not doing it in this box but it is when I use gmail (which is my primary use of the browser). Is there anything else you could suggest? Could there be some problem between gmail and Firefox? I never had this problem using gmail in Chrome. Thanks in advance.
