How do I display a French keyboard when I type email?

I've already added a French keyboard via the Control Panel and rebooted my computer, but I don't see how to access the French keyboard. I've tried hitting the Shift and then the letter "e" to get accents, but none appear. Please let me know whether I can find the French keyboard in one of the menu tabs.
