Lost all emails after April 2013 in one of my folders (some 5.000 emails...)

Hi, When I opened Thunderbird just now one of my folders (called "Incoming") did not immediately open, it was blank and had to process the messages in it (not sure if this is the right way of saying it). It took a minute or two and when it finished the most recent email in there was from April 2013! This means there are over 5.000 emails missing. I have not done any update recently on Windows or Thunderbird (except if it was an authomatic update). My version is 38.3.0
