How can I move an email to an inbox folder and have it removed from my main inbox?

I save all my emails in specific folders. I move them from my inbox to the folder and then they reappear in my inbox. I'm trying to clean my inbox. What am I doing wrong? or How can I accomplish this?

Thanks

Is the folder that you wish to 'save in' a sub-folder of the account inbox? Is so, you have not really moved the message out of your inbox.

Try creating a folder in 'Local Folders' instead. This will move the message outside of the specific named account and place it in a special folder that can be used by all your accounts. If your main account is ever closed, all messages in 'Local Folders' will still be available to Thunderbird. In an IMAP account, this can help to reduce the size of the message store on the server.

Don't forget, when you delete a message from any account in Thunderbird, the message is only 'marked' for deletion. It is not physically removed until you 'compact' the folder, a procedure you should perform on a regular basis.
