It's all there in the question. Something new came in and I'm told that "Thunderbird now contains calendaring functionality by integrating the Lightning extension." I understand every single word of that, bar 'calendaring', but not in that particular order.

It means that the calendar add on Lightning is now included with the normal download. Install it is you wish. Ignore if you don't.

OK, thank you, so now I understand that something I've never heard of and don't know how to use or what it's for, is available to me, and I still don't have the faintest idea what 'calendaring' is meant to mean. RIP the English language. Gods, I miss Outlook Express :(

Microsoft sells Outlook. Maybe you should try that.

No, I have tried Outlook and it's awful. Outlook Express, OTOH, was lovely.

And I still don't know what 'calendaring' means. Ho hum. Thank you for trying.

A calendar - a table or register with the days of each month and week in a year.

Calendaring- the verbal substantive, which in this context means functionality for organising and using calendars.

Toad, I am pretty sure the OP knows what is going on. They are just bored and trolling.

No, I'm neither bored nor trolling. I understand 'calendar' and 'calendula', both nouns, but 'calendaring' appears to be a verb and I've no idea what it means.

I give up. I'm just going to go into the corner and gibber quietly until I can find somebody who speaks English.

Antimini This is my last comment because I'm not amused by your time wasting. We are all volunteers offering out time freely to those in need of assistance with issues in Thunderbird,

You do not have an issue with Thunderbird. I've provided links for you to read so that you get some idea what Lightning offers.

You are perfectly capable of using a good English dictionary.

If you are working on maintaining one or more various calendars, you are performing a calendaring process. In Thunderbird, the new updates offer the functionality to perform calendaring using Lightning.

Lightning was and still is an add-on extension for earlier version of Thunderbird. As of the latest version is it supplied on download and auto integrated with Thunderbird. Read the information at the link to become familiar with what it can do for you. You do not have to use it, but it can be useful even you only use it to remind you to do things, like pay bills, birthday, phone someone etc etc.
