Firefox using excessive memory
When I go to a graphics rich page, Firefox starts eating up memory. It will use upwards of 300+MB of memory. The page will become almost unresponsive. Can hardly scroll the page.
I started Firefox in safe mode and the same thing happens. I disabled all plugins and still have the problem. I generally never have more than 3 open tabs at a time. Even with 1, the problem persists. It's getting so bad that I'm really close to dumping Firefox for Chrome. I hate Chrome but this problem has only gotten worse with each Firefox update. I've been using Firefox for 7yrs but this issue is getting to blanking ridiculous. I have more problems now with Firefox than when I was using XP. With a whole lot slower processor and about 10% of the memory. This box is 8.1 64bit.
All the plugins are up to date. I have more than enough memory.

Hello Izzzatso, please see if the issue persist in a new profile.

thank you
New profile? I uninstalled Firefox and removed all traces. I went through the registry and made sure there was nothing in there relating to Firefox. Reinstalled and haven't installed any addons/plugins.
Guess what? The problem persists.
300 MB memory use isn't that much for Firefox. If it keeps increasing then something is wrong. You could try to check the about:memory page.
Did you remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean reinstall?
- (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
- (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that helps.
