I am subscribing to show a second calendar on my Lightning calendar, but when it syncs it only seems to allow for 999 events... unfortunately, these are all in the past (years in the past!) and I don't see any of the events I would like to see. I don't see any way to customize how it imports events from a google calendar to prioritize upcoming events...

if you restart your operating system in safe mode with networking and then run Thunderbird. Does more that your 999 item synchronize?

Thanks, I just tried that but when I re-sync the calendar it again only loads 999 events (and they are all from over a couple years ago!). Any other suggestions?
