My inbox says I have new emails but I can't find them
On one of my email accounts the inbox indicates that I have 21 new emails. However, I have searched every email in my inbox and there are no unread [new emails]. There is a * in front of the number 21 i.e. *21.
I don't remember seeing the * before the number in the past, but it could have been there.
Any one have any ideas?

It means that some, if not all, of the messages that have been included in the count are in subfolders.
View|Folders|Unread is the best way I know to find unread messages, regardless of their location.
