When trying to receive, I get this message: "Login to server imap.googlemail.com failed." I type password (yes, correctly) as prompted. Same thing.

When trying to send, I get this message: "Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent using Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.googlemail.com for an unknown reason. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again."

We haven't changed any settings, and it was all working until yesterday.

The gmail account is working fine when I look at it online.

The problem might not be with your settings on Thunderbird. There's a helpful Gmail troubleshooter here, I suggest you try the measures recommended by Google: https://support.google.com/mail/topic/3397501?hl=en&ref_topic=3398031

Thank you for your answers. So far, we haven't found any solution. Looking around in Thunderbird, I found an error console. The error that shows up is "Could not read chrome manifest 'file:///C:/Program%20Files%20(x86)/Mozilla%20Thunderbird/chrome.manifest'." Remember, I am not tech savvy. Could this have something to do with the problem? If so,how would we fix it?

Thank you for your time!

Nope it is a totally unrelated and benign error. The only time the error console is of use is to clear it and then try the action and see what is shown.

The activity monitor may show you some relevant information, but I would expect that the issue will be with your settings.
