How may I eliminate multiple duplicate favicons in the location bar?

My location bar is suddenly displaying three Firefox favicons to the left of the URL, each with the popup "Verified by DigiCert, Inc." Once upon a while ago, there was only one favicon shown there for a specific page. It's confusing, as it looks as though there's something wrong and that the browser's screaming for attention. Is there a way to simply show only one favicon for the present location?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (3-bar Menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: 3-bar Menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
