Firefox options now opens with windows 10 options. I want Firefox format
I go to tools, options and the options are described in the new windows 10 format. They do not seem to give all of the options available in the original Firefox format. How can I read the options in the way Firefox intended them to be read. Hope this is understandable. thanks, tom
Chosen solution
Firefox’s Redesigned Preferences Feel More like the Web:
In current Firefox versions the Options/Preferences page is opened in a tab (about:preferences) and no longer in a standalone window.
You can look at the Classic Theme Restorer extension to open Options/Preferences in a standalone window.
- Options page / window
If this isn't working or the choice is missing then you might be using a theme that isn't supported. You can check that by switching to the default theme.

Please provide a screenshot of that "Windows 10 format" for options.
I can't seem to be able to paste a screen shot in here. The screen I am referring to is tools, options in Firefox, and up comes not the familiar screen of firefox, but a windows 10 version. I suppose any windows 10 computer will result in this window. My question is, how do I get the old, purely firefox window back?
This may not be clear, but I know no other way of putting it. Thanks for your time. tom
I have Win10 on 3 systems no idea what you mean. Must post a screen shot for us to help you. you must have some place you can post screen shot and submit a url for it. Most ISP's provide a personal website if ask about it (Canada for sure). or some where else. G'luck
Also I have no Win10 version look for Options, looks the same as it did in Win7
Sorry, this forum does not allow direct pasting of images. You'll need to use the Windows Paint program (under Accessories) or another image editor to save the screenshot. That also gives you the ability to cut out or blur any sensitive information before attaching the image to a reply. This article has more tips: How do I create a screenshot of my problem?
Other thoughts:
(1) In case the default zoom level is too high for the page causing some items are going off screen, could you try zooming out? For example, hold down the Ctrl key and tap - a couple times.
(2) If you are using an older full/complete theme, some have been discovered to cause the Options page not to work. You might need to try the default theme in that case. You can revert your theme on the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Appearance and then on the right side you can enable the Default theme.

Many, many thanks to all who gave time to reply. It was not a huge issue, but so many people contibuting their efforts was heartening. I do so wish that programmers altering old designs and claiming they are better would listen with the same attention and consideration.
thank you again, tom craig
