I follow all the steps in the "Cannot delete messages" solution up to showing the "trash" and "trash.mfs" listed in the incoming mail server folder. When I highlight them and try to execute the delete command for these two items I get a message that says I need administrator permission to delete them. No explanation of how I obtain this.

You enter the admin password for your copy of windows. What that is you know... No one else except perhaps those that sold it to you will know it

Mark,

If you went through the instructions that Mozilla posted for this problem you would see there is no place to "enter the admin password" - it is a dead end.

Of course there is no instruction on entering an admin password. that is a windows thing, most people do not have them, you apparently do. But it has nothing to do with Thunderbird or how it works.

To learn about windows administration passwords instead of criticizing the fact instruction for Thunderbird do not include instructions and explanation of how windows works I suggest you look to the operating system vendors web site, or in the case of an OEM copy of windows on the machines manufacturers web site as support for windows is delegated to the OEM where OEM software is sold with the device.

Here are some links to get you going. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/troubleshoot-windows-password-problems http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/how-do-i-log-on-as-an-administrator

Or you could ring Microsoft and ask them how to do it.
