I can no longer use Gmail through Thunderbird, my password isn't being accepted

I changed my password in gmail, and now Thunderbird won't accept my new password. I added 2 step verification per the suggestion in the forum, but still, every time I enter my password for gmail in Thunderbird, it doesn't accept it and asks me to retry.

Can you help?

When you set gmail to 2 step you have to generate an application specific password for Thunderbird and use that. You do this with gmail. Did you do that?

Maybe this will help you. If you enabled 2 step just for Thunderbird you wasted your time since it does not use it.
