My mail server password is longer than eight characters. When I am prompted to enter it by Thunderbird, I can't enter more than eight characters. This is behavior I have not encountered before.

What prevents you from entering more than eight characters?

After eight characters (represented by eight dots) the cursor doesn't move. If I ignore that and type the remaining characters in the password, server authentication fails.

Thunderbird would not limit the password length to 8 characters. Having said that, Thunderbird doesn't check your password anyway, it's your email provider's server doing that.

Please login to your account via webmail and verify your password.

I understand that. The problem is that Thunderbird is not allowing me to enter the entire password. This happens with the most recent version of the software on my laptop. The same version on my desktop does not behave this way. Weird!
