How do I make the "Find" bar (Ctrl+F) permanently sticky like it used to be years ago?

Years ago I used to click Edit>Find and the Find bar at the bottom would open and not go away until I closed it. Now it goes away willy-nilly...sometimes with the next link or just the next search. It's really annoying not to have it stick, especially when there are multiple hits on the page. I'd actually like it PERMANENT. I'm running 43.0.4 with Classic Theme Restorer, which shouldn't block this ability.

As of Firefox 25.0 and newer Release the Findbar only stays open in the tab the findbar was opened in and no longer stays open when you switch to another tab.

Firefox 43.0.4 is old now as Firefox 47.0 is the current Release and has security fixes the old 43.0.4 does not have.

The findbar should stay visible once opened until you close it. The quick findbar only stays open a few seconds.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

The System Details list next to the question shows that you run an older Firefox 43 version that is no longer supported with security updates. Always update Firefox and Add-ons to the latest versions to get all security fixes.

Please update to the current Firefox 47.0 release.
