My address list proper does not allow me to have a first and last name column, how can I fix this?

I have imported a .csv file from Excel and everything appeared to be OK but when the list is in Thunderbird the names have been combined into one column titled "Name". When I try to use the in the upper right corner to try to add the columns the option for first and last names is not there and the option for Names is grayed out but has a check mark beside it.

This has affected all of my address books. My books that were working properly now only have the Name column and no first or last name columns. This all happened at the same time as importing the last book.

What happens when you look at the details for a Contact in the address book itself? Does it not have First and Last fields there?

IIRC View|Show Name As can be used to tweak the display format.

Yes, that's the weird part. When I right click on a name in the address list and select Properties the names are shown as First and Last separately and there is nothing shown in the Display Name field.

A far as I know the has only ever been an Name column and as Zenos says you can modify what it shows using the view menu to First Last, Last First or Display name

Matt, Zenos, Thank you and sorry for wasting your time. This was truly a forest and the trees situation. I was sure that when you used the first name/last name switch that it was relying on columns to do that. Ah well, thanks again!
