Garmin plug-in not avaiable for Firefox
What needs to happen for the Gamin Connection (http://software.garmin.com/en-US/gcp.html) plug-in to work with Firefox? I was trying to interface with Ride with GPS to download a map, but was directed to use Internet Explorer. I almost exclusively use Firefox and that's where I prefer to work from when using a web browser.

I don't have a Garmin device, so I can't fully test this, but despite the various warnings and attempts to send you away, you can download the installer and get the plugin working on that page.
I have attached a couple screen shots illustrating. Can you get that far. Does it work after that?
No. I have searched for that plugin, no trace. Type it in the Search box, all I get is a "You Tube2" reference, which has no relation to Garmin. Would someone at FF please explain what is the problem with using Garmin on FF?
Hi Robzere, are you saying that Garmin no longer allows the download of its plugin? Or that you ran the installer but it doesn't show up in Firefox?
If Garmin no longer distributes the plugin, I do not recommend using unofficial sources.
First, please note if you are using the newer 64-bit version of Firefox for Windows, it only supports the Flash and Silverlight plugins, so Garmin will never be made to work on 64-bit Windows Firefox. You would need to use the 32-bit version of Firefox to use this plugin.
Second, you can check the Add-ons page to see whether Garmin needs to be activated there. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. On the right side, check the various installed plugins and modify the default permission if needed. Disabled plugins are grouped at the bottom of the list.
- Always Activate = any sites can use this plugin without further permission
- Ask to Activate = sites require permission to use this plugin
- Never Activate = this plugin is invisible, sites do not know it is installed and they cannot use it
Don't use the blue button on the below page. After clicking the "X" to remove the overlay, use the Quick Links on the right side to get to the installers.
Hi Robzere, this was the download page I used before and it seems to still be there: http://software.garmin.com/en-US/gcp.html
As noted earlier, since I don't have a Garmin device, I don't know whether the plugin still works.
Modified
This extension has version 4.1.0.0 of the plugin, not the latest.
If you are using this extension, there is a user review with suggestions for getting it working:

Hi folks,
Or according to an automated translator, you still need to go to the Add-ons page after that and change the permission to "Always Activate" after installing this extension. (So the extension must load the plugin for you. ??)
Modified
Sorry, it took me a while to find where I had downloaded from before. The Quick Links take you to these pages with more conventional installers that are not blocked by Firefox's extension security requirements and are more up-to-date than the Mozilla Add-ons site:
Windows: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3607
Mac: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3739
Then AFTER that, you'll need to check the plugin permission on the Add-ons page.
Thanks for your 4 Replies jscher2000, I have copied & pasted all 4. I have to get back to them later, as I am in the aftermath of fitting new network cables. But thank you for your information and advice, much appreciated.
