Ver 45.2.0. Seemed to have started about 4 months ago. IMAP. Contacted service provider - they have no policy on deleting items from the trash. We have another PC/acct using Outlook and emails in trash are never deleted permanently until we do so.

Issue is that emails that are sent to trash are permanently deleted after 10 days - exactly.

Confirmed in settings/sync & storage that 'don't delete any messages' is checked.

I understand that once an email is 'deleted' and sent to trash, that there should be no reason to save that email any longer, however things happen and sometimes you need that email back. Please tell me how to make this stop happening.

Hmm, is outlook set to use POP. I bet it is.

And there is a phone in the mix that is deleting the trash to save space on it's very small storage space.

All conjecture, but as Thunderbird does not delete mail after do days when you set it to delete nothing then I have to look outside the box. I have nothing but guess work as you supplied no information about your setup or your provider, but in this circumstance I would probably go with my gut anyway.

thank you for helping me out. Let me know what i can tell you about the setup and I will. Outlook PC is on imap as well.

However, I like the idea of the phone, though. That may very well be the culprit. Will look into that and get back to you.

Deletion parameters can be set by folder, which override the general "Synchronization and Storage" settings for the account.

Check by right clicking the "Trash" folder icon and select "Properties". From the dialogue, click the "Retention Policy" tab and check the cause isn't in there.

A long time ago I set this to 90 days .... it's taken me 3 hours to find the setting again to change it to 180 days.

Hope this helps.

Ok, I checked the properties on my Trash folder, and they are greyed out! I have account settings checked, and Don't delete and Always keep are both checked in grey, not black. And I lost all of my trash emails in the last month! Why???
