Prevent annoying Firefox behaviour of being Always on Top: good solution found by myself, I want to share it with others
I think I found very easy and working solution for the issue of Firefox window being in mode Always on Top. Go to about:config and write there a string "ontop". In my case what appeared as a result is this setting.
E6C93316-271E-4b3d-8D7E-FE11B4350AEB---ontop == true
Switch it to value "false". It does not look like standard setting ony any built-in feature of Firefox, so this could be from some add-ons. Let's check add-ones, which are included and active in your FF. I found this (I didn't install it, but maybe it was installed by an admin).
Always on Top 2.1.25.1-signed.1-signed
Description:
Sets 'Always on Top' style for this windowVery simple "Always on top" addon implements the same simple functionality - it allows you to add style "Always on top" for current Firefox window.
You can use whether menu item, toolbar item or Ctrl-Alt-T shortcut
So turn it off, restart FF, and luckily work with it without being annoyed.

The https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/always-on-top/ is a third-party Extension as no version of the desktop Firefox for Windows, Mac, Linux from mozilla.org www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ does not come with this extension.

Hello neuroanimal :-)
thank you for sharing with all your solution.
Now please write again (or copy-paste) only the steps from your solutions in a new reply and mark that reply - YOUR reply as solution chosen, because when someone seek for solution in the web first of all rise up the solution chosen from firefox and then other questions(without solution chosen mark) :-)
if you have any other "tricks" please share it with all of us :-)
thanks again

I have marked this solved by the reply from James, which also quotes the OP. Whilst that does not give direct credit to neuroanimal it does make the solution visible in both standard internal searches and also external web-searches.
I imagine some people will actually like using an add-on that lets Firefox stay on top of other windows. The addon does have 24k users.
