After automatic windows update to version 1607 and subsequent removal of same, using firefox for online billpay and when I closed the browser it seemed fine. When I went to restart, screen came up to ask if I wanted to start in safe mode. I did not click for safe mode and after finally getting firefox to reopen, all data was gone. No bookmarks. Tried to trouble shoot but no success. Any help greatly appreciated.

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backups of files that you choose.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

While still in Safe Mode,

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

Tried Old Firefox folder with no results.

What do you mean? Were there any folders/files there?

more options

3 folders, 2 of them dated 10/11/16 & 1 of them dated 10/13/16. Please excuse me as I am not the most tech savvy person, am trying to follow as best I can.

Check out the 10/13/16 folder, look at the file sizes. If it looks okay, use it. If not, go on to another folder.

more options

Folders are as follows: 10/11 - 49.4 mb 10/13 - 25.0 mb 10/11 - 17.0 mb

I am slightly confused. When I open the firefox profile folder, do I then paste the folder from the desktop into that folder ?

more options

No. Select a folder. Then Copy the chosen files to the current profile, overwriting the current files.

Tried all 3 folders, no luck. No bookmarks have returned, just shows from time firefox disappeared. Am turning in for tonight. Thank you for your efforts. If you have any other thoughts, would like to hear them. Again, thanks and good night.

This morning I sat down and just started to open any folder that I could find in firefox. Took me about an hour and a half of going through folders, but somehow I managed to restore the bookmarks in firefox. I have no clue as to how it happened, but I am thankful that it did. Thanks for your efforts. Just wanted to touch base and let you know.
