I have a number of address books - the collected addresses where t'bird puts everything, and a number of specific others, eg family, professional colleagues, university class contacts etc. The effort to do that was painful.

What I want to do is move (but copy then delete would do) a whole entry, eg jim smith and all his details, from one book to another. But I can't do that. Instead, it involves a painstaking copy and paste of each element (name, mail address, nickname, phone number etc) of a contact properties one after another between the address book where it is now, and where I want it to be. And when it's all done, then delete that contact from the old book. It should not be this hard.

How can I just move or copy contact 'properties' (all of them in one operation) from one book to another?

You can use ctrl while dragging to make it a copy rather than a move.

What prevents you from doing that? It's possible to drag and drop contacts between address books.

That simple.

Been using TB for years, and cannot recall ever having any success with that early on, so never tried it again.

But there's a catch. If you drag and drop, have made a mistake and delete the entry in it's new location, intending to go back and try a 2nd time - it's gone totally. And there's no undo in address books that I could find, experimenting with this.
