How do I prevent Firefox and Thunderbird to install a desktop icon every time an update is executed
Every time when Firefox or Thunderbird installs an update I find the program icons back on my desktop. I maintain a clean desktop policy, so this is very annoying having to delete them every time an update passes.

What's your computer system and Firefox version?
Most installers have settings that can turn this option on or off. Next time, when running an installer, use the Custome or Manual option.
I run Windows 10 Professional with currently the latest version of Firefox and Thunderbird. When installing the first time I have disabled the option to allow the desktop icons. The problem lies when the automatic update installs the newer version, it defaults to installing the desktop icon. This is despite my orignal installation preference.
Hi !
Stab in the dark, but worth a try:
Type in the address bar about:config
(promise to be careful)
Type and look for browser.shell.shortcutFavicon
and set it's value to false
Thanks for the answer. I have to keep track of the validity of this possible solution on the next update. Is there a similar method to try for Thunderbird too?

Not going to lie to you: I don't know. Been trying to find out; to no avail. Hope somebody else can shine a light on this (sorry !)
