After hitting Run, and the file extracts, I get a "Run as" dialogue box stating, "You may not have the necessary permissions to use all the features of the program you're about to run. You may run this program as a different user or continue to run the program as the current user."

It then gives me to options to run as DEBBIESTOSHI-Debbie (me, of course) or a separate button with a username (defaulted as "Administrator") and a password box. No matter what I choose and hit "OK" the program simply does nothing else from there. The box disappears and nothing else ever happens. It's my home computer. I'm the only one here and am logged in as the administrator (checked and double checked). Very frustrating! Please advise how to fix this. Thank you.

Chosen solution

the administrator on a windows computer is not the same as logging in as administrator. But wither way I am logged in as administrator and have no issues using Thunderbird installer. Perhaps you have other security software in play like an anti virus suite.

I hadn't thought of that! Will try again with the antivirus temporarily turned off. Thanks.

Instead of turning off the antivirus, I opened the download file and just clicked on "run as administrator". That did the trick!
