Prior to a couple of recent versions, this function worked easily by selecting text, right clicking on copy, then in a new Email, right click paste as quotation. Please restore the function so we can use it again!

Thanks, Jim

Works in the daily build, perhaps you have an add-on that is acting up. Hold shift while starting Thunderbird and continue in safe mode when prompted.

Matt, You were right. it was fine in safe mode. I disabled the 3 extensions that were activated: compact header, duplicate contact manager, and image zoom. There were no plug ins or add ons, and I had the default theme. My wife's computer had a bunch of plug ins, which I disabled and all was fine there, too.

Thanks for the help....

try re-enabling them again and see which is the cause. I would guess image zoom and it interacts with the body of a message, the other two you mention do not.

Note here that there should never b any plugins enabled in Thunderbird. To enable them is a distinct security risk, one your anti virus is unlikely to plug up.

Matt, I had thought the problem was fixed. It's not. It works only intermittently. I have no plug-ins or extensions enabled. I can't think of anything else to try. Can you think of anything else (a setting?) that could make paste as quotation nonfunctional?

It will obviously be non functional if there is nothing on the clipboard that can be pasted as a quotation.

I suggest you use a tool like http://www.freeclipboardviewer.com/ and see just what is available when things go pear shaped. The clipboard is sometimes use by lazy/ ignorant programmers to move data. SO it might be worth checking.

OK, will try that. However, regular copy and paste works fine all the time. It's only paste as quotation that doesn't. Therefore the clipboard contains the copied text. If you don't hear more from me, I just completely gave up.

Thanks, Jim
